This is my first time blogging about a food tasting even tho I've been for quite a few hehe. Went for the media tasting at FYR (pronounced as FIRE) about 2 weeks ago & we were treated to so much food, we couldn't finish anything at all! & there were 7 of us, 6 girls & 1 guy lol.
FYR Cycene Ond Drinc
19 Boon Tat Street
Baked Freshly Shucked Oysters, $15
Can't comment cuz I don't eat oysters so I didn't try this.
We also had 2 other starters which I forgot to take pics of, the Baked Half Bone Marrow, $15, which I tasted a teeny bit of. I was rather apprehensive about tasting this haha but the seasoning on top was nice, it was just personal preference that I didn't eat much of this dish. Like erm its very weird wth is bone marrow....... We also had the Baked Aubergine & Chickpea Ragout, $10, which I really liked! It's basically baked eggplant. I don't like chickpea but overall it was really nice, slightly creamy & cheesy.
Five-spice Half Chicken, Striploin & Asian-spiced Tiger Prawn, $55
My favourite was the chicken! I only eat the chicken breast & I was surprised to find that the meat was tender & flavourful as breast meat is usually overcooked & dry. The prawns were also nicely seasoned. Not a beef-lover & found it abit under, which is probably fine for most people in general (cuz I eat my steak well done hahaha)
Grain-fed US Holstein Cow Ribeye 365 Days, $32
I really disliked this one, the beef was very raw (to me, as I mentioned above) & it was very very fatty!! A complete no-no for me. I ate like one tiny bite & passed the rest to my friend thereafter. Eeeeks.
Whole Maine Lobster, $35
Lobster baked with their creamy sauce & cheese on top, I love creamy & cheesy stuff so I thought this was good, but the general feedback from the rest was that the lobster meat was too tough. Idk cuz I seldom eat lobster so I thought that it was normal hahahahaha.
Spiced Deboned Red Snapper, $25
This was really the best main out of all, the fish was super soft, & best part, DEBONED. So you don't need to worry about getting bones stuck in your throat while eating. It was seasoned very very nicely & the fish meat didn't have that weird "fishy taste" at all! I'm usually quite apprehensive about eating fish cuz I hate that fishy smell/taste but this was sooooo gooood.. I think almost everyone felt the same way cuz their forks just kept going back to this dish hahah.
Seafood Linguine, $18
I didn't really like this dish, it was very normal & nothing special to shout about, on top of the fact that I am not a fan of tomato-based pasta. I wouldn't really recommend ordering this.
Baked Pistachio Melt & Pandan Ice Cream, $10
I didn't think I would like this dessert as I'm not a fan of nuts, but the cake wasn't nutty-tasting at all! In fact, the mild pistachio taste blended very well with the pandan ice cream, which tasted very authentic. & like all lava cakes it was a good blend of hot & cold. The cake wasn't cloyingly sweet which didn't result in me having a sore throat after. (I always feel like my throat gets very painful after I eat too much sweet things, do you?? haha) I preferred this over the other dessert that we had.
Ok the end of my supposed "review" hahaha still quite bad at this as I usually describe my food w 2 words "nice!" or "SUCKS" HAHAHAHA.
